It's Been a Real Jungle Out There

I posted a while back that the Junco's had built a nest in our wreath again. A few days after my post I saw the nest had been torn apart... and the eggs were gone! I think some animal got to it but I don't know how. The wreath hangs on the side of our house about 5 feet off the ground. I could see Mr. and Mrs. Junco hanging around in our garden but there was no sign of the eggs or baby birds. This is the first time that's happened.

We've lived here for more than 20 years and about 5 years ago I noticed a wild bunny in our yard. Since then they really have multiplied and one has built a nest under an azalea bush in our backyard. Diana was over the other day and noticed Poppy had been awfully quiet for a while. When she went out to the backyard she saw Poppy had found the nest! She had dug into it and there was a tiny baby bunny in the dirt. It didn't make it. 😔 We tried to block the nest but she got into it again and we lost another one. We really barricaded it that time and Poppy hasn't been able to get to it. We were going out a couple days later and I saw a crow on the back fence with something in it's mouth. Noooo! I couldn't believe it! Another one! And when I looked toward the nest... there's mom (or dad) watching it happen. Ugh! Broke my heart! I know this is how nature works but to see it right before your eyes? Yikes.

I got to work in the yard a little last week. To be honest I don't particularly enjoy yard work, but I certainly love the results!

Oh, what a sad story of the juncos and the bunnies. I know this is nature, but I hate to see it too. If you have crows around, they could have raided the bird's nest and got the eggs. We are watching our bluebirds with their 2nd brood of eggs in the birdhouse. so far I think they are safe and all is well, but we never know. Things happen. Oh, your yard work certainly does look like it was well worth the effort! I do not really like to do it either and don't have the energy or strength to do what I'd like to do, so I do what I can and pray for God to take over the rest. I water as much as possible, but it is so hot and dry right now I just can't keep up with it. So it is what it is. The cycle of life in birds, rabbits, plants and people...we can't always protect the ones we love either, so we have to pray for God to be there for them through all of life's adversities. He is and He will be. Have a blessed and beautiful day.

Last year, I had to take the wreath on my front door down because the birds kept making nests in it. And they did it so quickly!!! Nature sure is something. Your yard work was well worth the effort, my friend. Looks beautiful!

Yikes! Quite a nature drama occurring right before your eyes! Ahh yes, those weeds, I cannot stay on top of them for sure but there is such a delight in seeing a cleaned out area! Hope you have a good weekend.

That makes me so sad about the bunnies. We have bunnies that come into our yard. I had one that would wait for me to give him a baby carrot. Then after a very long time he never came back. Other's are still coming into the yard. Now I have another one who comes looking for a carrot. He will run away if I open the back door. The other would not. So after he runs away I put a baby carrot out in the spot he liked to sit at. My husband does all of the yard work. Your planting areas look beautiful.

I hate the work of it - why I want to pay someone to do my landscaping.
I love watching nature in our back woods - we just had a deer come so close.

It IS a jungle out there! Your hostas are looking really good. I need to divide mine -- hopefully before the deer eat them all!

Thanks for coming to visit, Cindy! I love making new friends!
This story of the baby birds and bunnies is simply heartwrenching. Ya, it's all about the circle of life but still. Makes this body want to move into a penthouse apartment -- lol.

I love seeing how your family engage(s) in road trips. That used to be my father's passion.
