Our Week

 Hello,

It's about 6:00 Saturday evening as I write this. This time of year it stays light until 10pm and it still confuses me. Doing stuff around the house I wonder why I'm yawning, then I realize it's 9:30. A few years ago we'd still be out working in the yard at that time but not anymore. Our age is catching up to us!

Speaking of working out in the yard, I thought I would share a few of our plants. One of the hydrangeas out under the trees, and one of the hostas by the house.

Then some foxglove in the backyard.

Beth and I got our hair cut yesterday, basically the same style just shorter. I'll try to get some after pictures in the next few days.

The Lord woke me up very early this morning and told me to 'Pray over your house.' So I did. Went into every room and prayed for peace, and joy and protection against the enemy. After a while I fixed some tea and went to sit in the backyard. When I looked up at the clouds I saw this:

In Genesis God tells Noah that when He brings the clouds over the earth and a rainbow appears, He will remember the covenant He made with Noah, and with all generations to come. I want to think it was His way of telling me He heard my prayers. It was such a sweet time with my Savior.

We're celebrating Pentecost Sunday tomorrow. When people in our congregation who were born outside the U.S. kind of do a 'Parade of Flags' then they all go up on the platform and we celebrate the Lord of the Nations. It's one of my favorite days of the year. These pics are from last year:

(This one is not my picture.)

It's always an emotional day. I'll close this for now. I pray you're all doing well.

It's Been a Real Jungle Out There

I posted a while back that the Junco's had built a nest in our wreath again. A few days after my post I saw the nest had been torn apart... and the eggs were gone! I think some animal got to it but I don't know how. The wreath hangs on the side of our house about 5 feet off the ground. I could see Mr. and Mrs. Junco hanging around in our garden but there was no sign of the eggs or baby birds. This is the first time that's happened.

We've lived here for more than 20 years and about 5 years ago I noticed a wild bunny in our yard. Since then they really have multiplied and one has built a nest under an azalea bush in our backyard. Diana was over the other day and noticed Poppy had been awfully quiet for a while. When she went out to the backyard she saw Poppy had found the nest! She had dug into it and there was a tiny baby bunny in the dirt. It didn't make it. 😔 We tried to block the nest but she got into it again and we lost another one. We really barricaded it that time and Poppy hasn't been able to get to it. We were going out a couple days later and I saw a crow on the back fence with something in it's mouth. Noooo! I couldn't believe it! Another one! And when I looked toward the nest... there's mom (or dad) watching it happen. Ugh! Broke my heart! I know this is how nature works but to see it right before your eyes? Yikes.

I got to work in the yard a little last week. To be honest I don't particularly enjoy yard work, but I certainly love the results!

Sleeping, Sweating and Selling

Saturday was very busy for us. We usually try to keep our Saturdays stress free and quiet, but sometimes ya just can't help it!

I went downstairs to wake Beth up and I even turned on my camera before I got there so it wouldn't wake her. But she heard me anyway and put her pillow over her head! The turkey.

We had breakfast, then it was time for Athletics. The coach had called us the night before to tell us that Beth didn't make it to State. In the past, any athlete who got a gold or silver medal, went on to the State Tournament. We don't know if it's due to a lack of volunteers or budget cuts or what, but a lot of kids don't get to go this year. It's kind of sad and some of the coaches are going to complain. One of our coaches had to tell his daughter that for the first time in 7 years, even though she got a silver medal, she couldn't go. This is Beth's first year in Athletics so she doesn't know what she's missing. We'll keep taking her to practice so hopefully next year she'll make it to State.

I keep forgetting to put Beth's location on the photos.
In this one she's near the center of the picture, in the pink hoodie, purple sweat pants and the teal headband.

After Athletics practice, we headed home for lunch. I had promised her youth choir director that we would take a turn manning the flower sale. For a fundraiser, some of the youth sold flowers for Mother's Day and people could pick up their flowers on Saturday or Sunday. Most people opted for Sunday; can't say I blame them. But that sure made for a pretty boring Saturday afternoon!

When someone came for a plant, we'd put their receipt into the envelope, then put the envelope into the folder.

The long list of plants and all the people who bought them.

Just some of the plants waiting to be picked up.

We left the church and went to the grocery store. Came home, put away all the groceries, then fixed dinner. It was a long, fun day!
