A Goodbye, Hilarious, and No Birds

Beth and I had a doctor's appointment this week to say goodbye to our primary care physician. We've seen Dr. T for close to 20 years! I'm sitting here thinking of all the things she's walked through with us... you guys go to the doctor, you know! 😊 Dr T is retiring so we made her a card and went in to see her. She asked Beth about Special Olympics during covid, we talked about our health of course, and we talked about our families. I had to hold back the tears as we walked back down the hallway and out of the clinic. She recommended another doctor to us, one that's there in that clinic and I know she'll be good but it won't be the same.

Beth got her first vaccine a couple weeks ago. Unfortunately we had to drive 45 minutes to get there! The second one is scheduled for the same place but we're hoping to get it changed to one a little closer to home. Chuck already has both his shots and he did fine, no side affects at all. And I go in for my first dose this Friday. Yep, I'm going to get it! I'm a little nervous... there's so much controversy surrounding it, but mainly it's just because I don't like needles!

We went out to lunch with Sharaya and Ally on Sunday and on our way home Beth was watching something on her phone and was laughing so hard! It got Chuck and I to laughing... don't know what she was watching but it was funny, whatever it was!

Mrs. Junko has been sitting on the nest a lot lately. I peeked in the other day and it's still just the eggs. No birds yet. You can see how deep the nest is, you have to really get on top of it to see the eggs. It's great protection!

Have you ever had to switch doctors? What was it like for you?

When is the last time you laughed really hard?

Biopsy

We took Beth to the doctor to get a biopsy for the bump on the top of her head. They really did take a piece out it, leaving a hole right in the middle of it! It bled a little so the doctor put some silver on it.

First they put on some gauze tape to help keep her hair out of the way

You can tell by the look on the MA's face, it wasn't pleasant!
But Beth never flinched. It didn't faze her at all.

Then the band aid and we were on our way.

It only took a few minutes and I think the hardest part for Beth was when they removed the tape. I helped her wash her hair that night because I wasn't sure if she should get it wet. But she slept fine and never once complained that her head hurt or anything. I had asked Chuck to come with us for support and told him part way through that I realized he was only there for me! I could have dropped Beth off and she would have been fine! This girl deals with medical procedures SO much better than I do.

And now we wait for the results.

Radiation Treatment

I got home from work, put dinner in the oven, started a load of laundry and now I have just a few minutes before everyone else arrives home.

Let's see, what have we been up to?

Yesterday I painted 'phase 2' of the kitchen. I'm hoping to get it done before the end of the year. No guarantees.

Diana leaves for London in just two weeks! She's going to the premier of Les Miserables. She'll be going alone but plans to meet some friends there. I'm a little jealous.

On the 27th of this month, Beth starts her radiation treatment for Graves Disease. Chuck has taken that whole week off so we'll both get to be there with her. I'm glad Chuck is coming. We always feel stronger and more brave when he's around.

I don't know if I told you that I was asking a lot of questions in the doctors office about side affects, things we should watch for, etc. when he told me that the government looks at this the same way they look at a nuclear reactor. To them, it's all radiation so a lot of the same rules have to be followed. But he said there's such a small amount of radiation in this pill, it's not gonna hurt any of us. It's just a tiny amount to kill her thyroid. But because it's r-a-d-i-a-t-i-o-n, the government puts all these restrictions and guidelines in place. He said by law, we have to follow the rules he gives us, but medically there's not enough radiation to do any harm.

I felt so much better after that! It was like, "Okay. We can do this."
