A Tale As Old As Time

I was getting ready to shut down the computer when I remembered I haven't shared Beauty and the Beast with you yet!

Sharaya was given tickets to Anastasia at the Paramount the same night Beth and I were going to the 5th Avenue Theater so we ended up taking the Light Rail downtown. It was so much faster and we didn't have to fight traffic or search for parking.

We walked through the tunnel to get outside then stopped at MOD Pizza before heading to the theater. We got there about 20 minutes after the doors opened and by then the line was really short. We had to show ID and proof of vaccination, got our hands stamped and went inside! We were so excited!

We had such great seats! They were perfect. We took a few pictures and read the program while we waited for the show to start! Beth took a picture of the rose on the curtain and put it as the background on her phone.

The whole play was good. There were a few new songs but most of them were from the movie. The actors voices were phenomenal, the music was familiar - all the songs you know and love - and we tried our best to not sing along. Too loudly.

Our favorite part was Be Our Guest. Oh my word, the audience erupted in applause and we gave them a standing ovation for that! It was spectacular! Of course, no pictures allowed so I took this at the end. This was the set for the library and the tower, it slowly turned depending on what they needed. The last couple pictures I got from their website.

It was a magical night! If you get a chance to see it, we highly recommend it!

Cats, Cut, Check Mate

It seems like I just wrote my last post yesterday but now I see it's been a week! Time is just flying by.

The cats have been such a great source of entertainment. Sharaya and Ally say they love to watch TV and now we've seen it for ourselves. This is Maya. She couldn't take her eyes off that hockey puck!

We went to Diana and Peter's on Sunday for lunch. Diana got Peter got a new griddle for his birthday and he couldn't wait to try it out. I'm glad we got to he his testers! The burgers were delicious! While we waited for them to cook, Diana and Sharaya played chess and Beth copied her letters. (She does this at home every day.) It was my second time seeing Poppy, their puppy (does anyone else remember that Christmas song from the 60's? "Poppy the puppy, loves little girls and boys, he checks the list, you won't be missed, you'll get your share of toys." I think I still have the 45) but I didn't get one single picture! There was even some great shots when Poppy was chasing Peter around the yard but I completely missed the opportunity.

After dinner we played Phase 10. Have you ever played it? My family used to play Frustration Rummy and they're very similar but I think Phase 10 is more frustrating! (Can you tell I lost?)

I got my hair cut last weekend. You can't really see a difference but I've had an undercut for a few years and this time I got layers. Only about an inch of layers. I'm not a big fan of change so I take baby steps when I can. 😊

On Friday Beth and I are going to see Beauty and the Beast at the 5th Ave Theater! We are so excited we can hardly stand it!

A Movie, A Photo Booth, and Chocolate

Beth was 20 years old when World Down Syndrome Day was established so we haven't really participated in anything. We went on one Buddy Walk, but we haven't worn the socks or T shirts or done anything really to bring awareness to Down Syndrome. But this year I decided to do a little something. It's not much but it's a start.

I've really liked the whole Random Acts of Kindness thing. I think that's good any day of the year! But to celebrate WDSD in a way that shows love and consideration to others just seems right to me. So I went on-line and copied a little note I'd seen, made a card - blue and yellow of course! - and filled some small baggies with chocolate. Then as we went about our day, I had Beth hand them out to people. I explained what they were for and why we were handing them out. The clerk at the drug store, the waiter at Red Robin, the cashier at the grocery store... everyone was overwhelmed and kept thanking Beth.

They looked at her. They thanked her. That's what surprised me the most, people genuinely engaged her, some for the very first time even though we're in these stores many times a week. I plan to do this again next year, but more of them and maybe something other than chocolate.

After we handed out all of our baggies, we went and saw Beauty and the Beast and we loved it! Before we went in we told Beth that she couldn't sing out loud because she knows every word to every song and we knew she would sing them! But she did very good and didn't sing at all, at least not loud enough that we could hear.

The music was wonderful, the sets were magnificent, the story... old as time. (Didja see what I did there?) 😊

We got there early so Beth and I decided to get inside the photo booth! I don't think I'd ever done it before but I think they turned out pretty cute!

On Sunday we're meeting Nick at a different theater and she gets to see it again with him. She told me she hopes there's a photo booth there! We might have to keep at eye on those two!
