Nice and Quiet

Not much happening this weekend. We've spent today doing chores around the house and watching the Olympics. My favorite sports are swimming and gymnastics. I could watch those all day!

The extreme heat we had a few weeks ago really did a number on my hydrangeas. I went out and cut back a lot of the dead, dry flowers (you should always cut those so the plant doesn't spend it's energy on them, correct?) That night on the news Seattle gardening guru Ciscoe Morris tells us not to cut them off! Oh well. I did get a few nice flowers this year.

Chuck and I went out to eat last night. We've decided we've got to try to have more date nights. He worked nights for a year and even though it was during covid, we just stopped going out. Even just to go sit in the car somewhere. We're going to try to change that. Chuck has been craving ribs lately so we went to Moonshine BBQ. It's a sports bar and grill and their BBQ is so good! Plus it was nice to just sit and talk.

That's about it. It's been a nice, relaxing weekend. Just what I've needed.

Are you watching the Olympics? Do you have a favorite sport?

A BBQ and A Supreme Court Justice

Our church held it's big Fall Kick Off today. It's when all of our classes and bible studies begin, the children in our Kids Ministry all move up to their new classes and this year we had a BBQ out in the parking lot.

I helped set up, then went and taught Sunday school. After the kids all left, we cleaned up the class room, then Beth and went went out to have lunch with everyone. Then we got up to help tear everything down.

The forecast kept hinting at rain for today, first they said the afternoon, then it would come in the evening. Course, you never really know!

Setting up.
It was at this point we realized we were about 12 tables short!

Beth is on the left, in the teal.

Gathering all the salt and pepper shakers.

She saw these tablecloths blowing out of the trash and ran over to push them all back down.

We all finished cleaning up around 3:00 and I think the rain began at around 6:00. Whew! But it was beautiful during the BBQ!

While we were doing that, Sharaya and Allie went to the UDub (University of Washington) and got to hear Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor! I'm in awe of Sharaya, the way she's introducing Allie to so many powerful, strong women. Instilling in her that women have a voice and they can serve in places of authority.

What We've Been Up To

We just spent the last two weeks traveling America's highways and I must say, we live in a magnificent country!

We drove back to Pennsylvania (from Seattle) to see Diana and we had such a great time!

We stopped in Denver to see Chuck's mom and sister. He and Diana had stopped on their way to Penn when she moved out there but it had been about 6 years since I'd seen her. It was good to hear her voice again. She's in assisted living so we just hung out in her room. Beth got bored and ended up just sitting on the floor but we got to Face Time with Diana, and it was just good to be together again.

I got to see a good friend who lives in Missouri. We met in high school and she was in my wedding and we've been in touch but we haven't seen each other in many years! We decided to meet at Woody's Smokehouse but we got there first. When I saw her pull in I was so excited I couldn't sit still, I was pacing! (Thank goodness there was no one else in the restaurant!) By the time she walked in the door we were both crying and we hugged for a long time. We got our lunch and ended up talking for 3 hours!! If we hadn't needed to get back on the road we'd still be there talking! It was SO good to see her and I hope it's not another 20 years before we see each other again. I love you J!

I need to get going but I'll write more about our trip later. I haven't gotten to the part with Diana and 'Wudder Ice!"
