Girls Day Out

Beth had a doctor's appointment last Friday. Just a follow up to go over the results of her lab work. Everything's normal. She's not in perimenopause but I'm thankful her cycle is regulated now. We don't know how it happened, we're not doing anything different, medication is the same, but my guess is... answered prayer.

She does retain water in her legs so the doctor suggested we get her an automann or something so she can raise her legs when she's sitting. So when we left the doctor we headed to a furniture store. She liked almost every chair she sat in. Here she's taking pictures of some of her favorites.

 Trying to find the controls...

We haven't bought anything yet. She needs to save up a little more money first, plus we want to check a few other stores.

From there we headed to the mall. We were a little early for the movie so we stopped at the food court for a snack. Pizza bites at our favorite place!

While we were eating she held her hands up by her shoulders, then pointed down toward her lap and said, "This good for me. Getting out." We talked about how important it is to get good exercise every day. Even though she goes out four days a week, plus does chores around the house she spends too much time watching TV. It's become that way for all three of us. When Chuck and I sit down at the end of the day, we pull out our phones and spend a few hours just scrolling or playing games. It's so hard to stop!

Well, after we ate we walked across a small section of the parking lot to the theater.

She's been wanting to see this since it came out ~

It was good. Our take-away was that it's okay to feel a little anxiety sometimes, or to be scared or sad. But we need to talk to someone about it, share with our family or friends and not let the emotions consume us. Galatians 6:2 - Carry each others burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

I like that it opens the door for conversations about what we all seem to be going through lately. I was recently listening to Priscilla Shirer and she mentioned how we didn't just go through a medical pandemic. We're also going through a political pandemic. And a social pandemic. I agree.

I don't know where I'd be without the Lord. Knowing that He is in complete control brings me peace of mind.

Thanks for reading. I hope you have a wonderful day!

An Update

I was brushing Beth's hair the other day and she told me, "You need to color your hair. You have a lot of gray."

Gee, thanks for pointing that out Beth. I explained to her the process for coloring your hair and the time and money it takes and I just don't want to go through all that. This is the way the Lord made my hair and I'm okay with it. "Okay" and out she went. "It's great chatting with you Beth!" 😄

This illness - whatever it is now - just keeps hanging on. We have a couple of days where we feel really good, like it's finally over. Then we wake up the next day congested and blowing our noses again. And the cough, that has never gone away.

I find myself trying to figure out what I did - or didn't do - that made it relapse. 'Maybe I should eat more of this; maybe I just need more sleep...' Do you do that too? I know so many people who are sick though so I think it's just the season for it and it needs to run it's course. A friend and I were talking about the weather being a factor - so much rain and ice throughout the country lately. Maybe what we all need is a little warm sunshine for a few days! (See, there I go again!)

I took Chuck to the doctor yesterday for a procedure but they ended up not being able to complete it. Now he needs to make a new appointment and they'll try again.

Let's see... Beth and I have dentist appointments next month. And hair appointments. Not a whole lot going on around here, can you tell?

I guess I'll stop here. I want to thank you for all your comments on my last post. I appreciate your prayers. We're not out of the woods yet.

Monitoring, Characters, Responsibility

After Beth passed out a couple weeks ago her doctor wanted her to get a heart monitor. Wear the heart monitor for a week, then do an Echocardiogram. I would get the monitor at one doctor's office, then the echo would be done at a different office. They weren't able to find a date that worked so I told them I'd call them to set it up. Then I got sick.

Finally made the appointment and on Monday we went up to the doctor to get the monitor only to find out we were at the echo office. Thankfully they were able to get us in anyway and we walked out with her all hooked up. They're hoping these two procedures will give some idea as to why she passed out.

Our church hosts a Trunk and Treat and we did our usual Winnie the Pooh theme. We had it on Saturday and this year I bought some fun stickers. They were a huge hit! Unfortunately I didn't get nearly enough. We had about 600 kids come through! It is so much fun, we look forward to it every year. "Welcome to the Hundred Acre Wood!"

Have you voted yet? It seems each election becomes more important than the last. We sit down with Beth and explain a little about the issue and about each candidate. Sometimes she votes with us, sometimes against! We filled ours out and dropped them off a week early! Please vote.

I Think the Crows Read My Blog

Beth had another dentist appointment this week. She's got to have a total of 3 root canals plus a crown. This was her second visit for all of this work and I'm nervous for her, but she's perfectly fine with it. The endodontist keeps talking about how good she is as a patient. We got there early and she fell asleep in the waiting room.

I made a few more greeting cards. I really love doing this, it takes me out of my routine and I get to be creative. It really is therapeutic.

In my last post I wrote about how the crows were dive bombing this poor hawk. I really think the crows are the bullies of the bird world! Well, Beth and I ran some errands after her dentist appointment and a crow pooped on me!! We were walking out of Safeway and had just cleared the roof when... splat!! It was like he was waiting for me! And it's a brand new sweater, the first time I'd ever worn it!

I cleaned it with cold water before throwing it in the wash. Thankfully it all came out and it looks like new again.

Have you ever had a bird poop on you?

What do you do to relax or get out of a rut?

Scarring Alopecia

(Beth just came upstairs holding her milk carton, "I got buttermilk!" We could tell she wasn't happy! She put some in her tea and she said it made it "chunky." Eeewwww! I put some of our milk into a mason jar and she took that back downstairs. She's now making herself a new cup of tea!)

On Monday she had a doctor's appointment for her alopecia. Our family doctor diagnosed it a few years ago but the meds weren't helping so we went back and she thought maybe it was an iron deficiency but that hasn't helped. She sent us to a dermatologist and he says it's definitely scarring alopecia. He said the part of her scalp that is already bald cannot be reversed but the new meds should slow the progression in the rest of it. Thankfully pulling the top of her hair back in a small pony tail hides it. Of course the medicine the dermatologist prescribed wasn't covered by her insurance so they had to find another one that they would pay for. I'll be picking that up tomorrow.

Our view from the waiting area

The doctor had me take photos while he measured the area. We'll go back again in February to check it's progression.
