Saturday Snippets - BZZZ, Smile, Waiting

The pest control guy came out this week. I saw a few bees flying back and forth under one of our eves and when he got here we saw about 15-20 bees flying around. He said for every bee outside, there are about 10 inside. Eewww!!

Beth bought a new refrigerator that has a separate freezer. She's kind of outgrown the small fridge / freezer she has now and was so excited when this was delivered! And then we opened it up.

It was dented in a few places and many of the shelves were cracked and broken. We told Beth she could still use it and we would order new shelves or we could send it back and wait for a new one. Of course now this one is on back order so it's going to be a while until it comes. But she wants to wait for a new one. You can see the stainless and black one she's using now just to the right. This one is going to be so much better for her. But for now, we wait.

Allie came over today and helped me paint part of the fireplace. The red area was behind our old insert and needed to be painted before they put in the new one. It'll be installed on Wednesday!

 Then we painted pumpkins. 😊

Beth and I went to the grocery store this week and she put in The Greatest Showman CD. We sat in the driveway listening to the end of one of the songs and she was really rocking out! I'd pull up my phone to take a picture and she'd stop moving and quietly sing. I put my phone down and she'd bop her shoulders and jam! She's so shy, this is as crazy as she gets when she's being watched!

Are you shy or are you comfortable in front of the camera? Do you always carve pumpkins or do you draw or paint on them?

"And Now Here She Is, All The Way From Seattle Washington... !"

She told me she would watch the concert tonight and that I could record her! I went downstairs at one point and she said it still had a ways to go before her song came on. Then a couple hours later she sent me a text, "it is getting closer to the music"

(When I first started recording she put her hand by her face so I wouldn't be able to see her, so I stayed where I was to help her feel more comfortable and just got the side view.)

It was 3 1/2 minutes long and when I tried to email it to my computer, it said the file was too big. I'm not very tech-savvy and it didn't tell me how long it could be so I just got the last minute or so. Her big finale! You can see her plant her feet to get ready to hold that long note:

Please pray for her tomorrow, Monday at 2:15. They have more auditions next week so they'll post the cast list on the 24th.
We'll keep you posted!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our church is having a time of prayer and fasting starting tomorrow, to prepare our hearts for Good Friday. A time to set aside all the distractions that can keep us from the Lord, that takes up so much of our time every day. It just helps us focus more on the Lord and the sacrifice He paid on the cross. So I will be off social media for a few days.
I hope you all have a blessed week as we prepare to celebrate the resurrection of the Lord!
She Did It!!
Beth sang with the youth choir for the first time on Sunday! We arrived a few minutes early for rehearsal to make sure she would be okay on the platform. (She's afraid of heights.) I took pics during rehearsal but didn't use flash. Didn't want to disrupt anything. So there are assistants and other non choir members in the pictures.
They end rehearsal a few minutes before service begins so they can go downstairs and lock up their purses and stuff. I sat down in the Sanctuary and the choir began to file in. (They come in from behind the choir loft.) I'm watching them all, knowing that Beth's position on the platform means she is the very last one to enter. The last girl comes in and there's no Beth. Even the two girls that stand next to her are looking around the corner wondering where she is. No Beth.
I go out to the foyer to see her entering the door where her regular seat is! I took her down the back hallway, realizing that no one has shown her this area. We went up the stairs, back behind the baptistry and I pointed her out to the platform. Heading back to my seat, I see Miss Wendy (all the leaders have titles so the kids learn respect) coming down the hallway. She said she didn't see Beth on the platform and came out to find her. I was thankful she did. It was good to know that they'll watch out for her in times like this. Now I need to remember to let her go and let them go look for her. :)
She did SO great for her first time!! She knew most of the words to the songs - she's been singing along with her CD for weeks - she usually clapped on beat, she smiled.... what a joy to see her up there again. So many people stopped her in the foyer afterward to tell her how great she did. She was beaming!!
Beth stands on the far right side (sopranos) in the front.
There are about 75 kids in the choir.
Main Floor
When we got home from the baby shower, Beth told us that Miss Terri put her on the main floor! Instead of starting the choir on the first step, the first row of choir members will just stand on the floor of the platform! Woohoo thank you Jesus! When we asked Beth how she did she said, "really great!" Now I'm so excited to see her sing next week! I've printed out the words to some of the songs and she has been practicing a lot!
Diana won't be there to see her sing because she leaves tomorrow for Europe. Her first stop is the Cannes Film Festival in the South of France. Then she's headed to Disneyland Paris. Then spending a few days in London before heading home. This is her third solo trip and I don't know how she does it.
I'm Kind Of Dreading This day
Beth missed her bus again this morning. DART has already sent her one letter telling her that if she is a 'no show' one more time, they will cancel her pick ups for a few weeks.
Monday night I went downstairs at 10:00 to remind her it was time to get ready for tomorrow. Get the CD's she was gonna listen to on the bus, put her bowling ball upstairs, pick out her clothes, set her alarm, etc. Then lights out and in bed by 11:00. The dog came into our room at 2:30 AM because he had to go potty. I let him out and hear something downstairs. Beth is playing Monopoly. Full board, all the money, everything laid out in perfect piles. "Beth!! You have GOT to clean this up and go to bed!!"
Last night, 10:00 I go downstairs... you know the drill. She actually turned off the TV and got to work. Yes! Something woke me up at 1:00 this morning. It was Beth, singing. She is sitting on her couch, writing on her scratch paper, listening to her headphones, singing at the top of her lungs! "Elizabeth Meigan!! You have got to go to bed!!"
Aaarrrggg!!!
This morning just before her bus arrived, I went downstairs and she had turned off her alarm. She didn't hit snooze today. Nope, she turned it off. So.... I let her sleep. And of course, her bus came and went. I don't know what it will take for her to learn this lesson.
Being an adult doesn't mean you get to do whatever you want. It means you have to do the right thing. I think I have tried every explanation there is -
1. Mom and Dad have bosses that we have to listen to.
2. Your bus driver wakes up, gets dressed, warms up the bus just to come get you.
3. You have to wake up when your alarm clock goes off, not when your bus comes.
4. You have to watch the clock. Your bus driver makes sure he is here at 9:30.
5. You have to go to sleep at night cause in the morning you don't have a choice to sleep.
There will be no TV today until all of her chores are done. And I have a long list of chores for her to do. I'll try to keep her as busy as possible to make her as tired as possible! I came home from work yesterday at 4:30 and went downstairs to see how her day went at work. She was sitting up on her couch, remote in her hand, sound asleep. I know she's exhausted. I just don't know why she won't go to sleep before 3 AM.
So, I will wake her up and give her the news that she missed her bus. No karaoke, no art classes, no hanging out with her friends today. Then I will give her the list of chores.
