Shopping For Fun

Beth has been asking me to go shopping lately and we finally found some time to go.

I picked her up from bowling and we stopped at Silver Platters. She wanted to get a CD for Chuck for his birthday. She said he only has one CD in his car, the soundtrack to the Broadway play Come From Away. She never saw the play and doesn't really know any of the songs. So she bought him The Greatest Showman. It's one of her favorites!

We left there and met Diana and Adelaide for lunch at Red Robin. Another of Beth's favorites.

Then it was off to Target. Beth bought some overalls there not too long ago and both of those metal clips that attach the straps have broken. She loves those overalls so she tried on some new ones but they just didn't fit well. The top was too big; the pants were long...

"I dunno" (with a drop at the end) is Beth speech for "Nope."
Beth are you having the soup? "I dunno."
Did you want to come with us? "I dunno."
After I took this picture she turned around and said, "I dunno."

We're going to look for some on-line.

When we left Target Diana and Adelaide headed home and Beth and I went to Staples. She was after markers and gel pens. Two things she didn't find at Target.

She headed straight for the back of the store. Knew exactly what she wanted and where they were!

I cut her toenails this week and I noticed she needs new shoes. So, we'll be shoe shopping next!

Seaside

As I get older, I find I don't need many things. There isn't even that much that I want anymore. Except for clothes of course! I always want more clothes! I have plenty of nicknacks and books and plants in the garden. And every bit of it requires cleaning and maintenance.

So for my birthday the last couple of years, I've wanted to go somewhere or do something. This year, it was the coast. I was born and raised in San Diego and didn't realize what I had until it was gone. Oh, we get plenty of sunshine here in Seattle. Lots of water around here too. But the one thing Seattle doesn't have (besides extended family) is the ocean. And boy do I miss it!

So this year, we drove to Seaside Oregon for the day. Packed up the car early in the morning and drove 4 hours, through gorgeous scenery, over the Astoria-Megler Bridge and into Seaside.

We even passed a ship wreck.

The northwest has had 80 and 90 degree temps for weeks now, even months. So what do they forecast the Sunday we decide to go to the coast? Rain. Thunder. Lightning. I almost cancelled the trip but just felt peace from the Lord that it would turn out okay. I finally stopped watching the weather forecasts and tried to just trust the Lord.

We arrived in Seaside at about 1:00 and decided to go get lunch before heading down to the beach. As we're crossing the street it begins to rain. Just as we stepped inside the restaurant, it poured!! The water came down in buckets! People were running for cover and we were so thankful to be inside!

We ate at The Crabby Oyster and the food was delicious! By the time we finished eating, the rain had stopped and the sun was peeking through the clouds.

Down to the water!!
It was quite a walk to get close to the water, but I didn't care! I wanted to see those waves crashing on the shore!

After a couple of hours, we decided to do a little shopping so we packed everything up and headed back to the car. Beth had a hard time walking all that way in the sand. Her back hurt and her legs were beginning to hurt but I told her it was good exercise and very healthy to walk in sand.

I don't think she cared. :)

Seaside is a tourist town, and we found the carousel, there were souvenir shops, arcade games, we really had a wonderful day.

The ride home was relaxing and fun.

This is the view from the bridge.

Beth brought her ipod and we plugged it into the car speakers. We all sang along to Disney theme songs, worship music and musicals almost all the way home.

Family, the ocean and music. A perfect way to spend any day.

(And the Lord was right. The day turned out great!)

Tonight's the Night!

Tonight is the first show! There's another show Saturday evening and a dessert matinee on Sunday afternoon. There's a live orchestra, skits, dancing, lots of singing and of course, an amazing dinner.

It's a fundraiser for our youth choir. They're going to London this summer to sing, share the gospel and minister. They usually help in a soup kitchen or clothing bank. I haven't yet heard what all they'll be doing but the kids are so excited about going.

They began saving and preparing for this trip a couple years ago, before Beth joined. Even though she won't be going to London, she's excited about the Dinner Theater! She's in two numbers, plus will be handing out the item lists for the silent auction that happens before each show.

The theme is the 60's. We have her costume and I'll just tell you she'll be wearing a wig! I'll post pictures in a couple days. It's gonna be a busy weekend!

"I Have to Wake Up."

Beth's alarm went off at 8:30 this morning. Considering she was still awake listening to music at 3 AM, she was a tad sleepy. I peeked into her room to find her sitting on the edge of the bed. Her head was down and her eyes were closed but she kept saying, "I have to wake up. It's 8:33. I HAVE  to wake up."

Parade Pictures

We had such a great time at the parade today! There were classic cars and drill teams. Motorcycles and horses. Beth was so excited and nervous at the same time. The original plan was for All Aboard to have a float, but the trailer they were going to use, was cancelled at the last minute. But they all did great! Beth played a small drum the entire way. (She's in the red and white striped shirt.) We got a spot right at the end of the street so we could see everything coming right at us, then watch as they turned the corner. We yelled at Beth, but she didn't see us until after they had turned and were headed down the street. So was SO happy to see us! Big smile! Then she flipped her hair back like a super model and kept on marchin'!!

We went to Wendy's for lunch, then drove down to Seattle to take the ferry over to Bainbridge Island. A beautiful drive. Stopped for some yogurt while we enjoyed a music festival. Then back on the ferry for the ride home to Edmonds. Such a great day.

(I appologize for some of the pics being blurry. My little camera has a dial between close up and horizon, that can easily be changed without knowing it.)

This is Beth doing her Titanic impression. She does it every time we ride the ferry!

I hope you had an awesome and safe 4th!
