Antiques, Backyard Desserts, Strange Noises

For about 10 years our church has had a men's home for those coming out of addiction. And we just recently purchased a second home for single women. Our staff had a picnic out there last week to tour the home and just hang out together. It's a stunning property, with I think about 4 acres of woods and a creek... the home is very old with so many antique features.

The doorbell ~

This is a little gazebo type structure that looks like it was created for fairies! That pink thing is a mirror...

There's a lot of remodeling to be done but I'm glad they're going to try and save as much of it as they can. This place is going to bless so many women and the families who love them.

I went out to our backyard last week and picked 4 cups of blackberries! They've been growing wild back there for a couple years and this year we've got a great crop! I harvested... and Chuck made the cobbler. It was so good!

The new washing machine is working great! I was a little nervous at first because it shows it will only use about 3 inches of water in this massive machine, how is it even going to get everything wet? There are so many new settings but once we figured out what we wanted, we tested it with a load of towels and everything came out clean, and wet! We're still getting used to the unusual sounds coming from this thing...

Spushhh!...

Spushhh!...

Gush... then silence for 20 seconds.

Clump...

Clump...

I kind of wish we'd have gotten the one with the clear lid so we could see what it's doing! "Look ma! No agitator!"

It's the one on the right. You can see just how many options there are. It's very different but so far we love it!

Do you have antiques in your home?

Do you like to do major projects around the house?

Has your family been affected by addiction?

Agitators, Pins, One Inch

We had our dress fittings last weekend! As we were driving to David's Bridal Beth said, "It's almost here!" Chuck and Sharaya are announcing the count down, "Sixty one days!" "Fifty nine days!" As I write this the wedding is in 51 days. We pick up the dresses one week before we leave.

Our washing machine is on it's last... it's about ready to... well, no not really. We bought our washer and dryer - used - more than 15 years ago and they're still going strong! I don't have to have the newest and fanciest gadgets: I'm an advocate of 'if it's not broke, don't fix it.' So we just keep using them! It's just that the knob came off the washer a couple months ago and now it's really hard to choose the cycle. We use our fingernails, pliers, anything we can to get that dial to move.

Our house was built in the 50s and the space for the washer and dryer is really small. We're finding that the appliances they make today are too big to fit in our laundry room so we've decided to just buy the washer for now and figure out what to do with the dryer if - when - that finally goes. Our current washer:

And the one that will be delivered next week:

This one's much bigger and there's no agitator in it. I've heard good and bad things about not having one so I'm curious to see how this does. Do you have a preference?

Beth has wanted to get her hair cut lately. This time she got layers and she's so excited about it! She can't wait to show all her friends. Sorry, I never got an 'after' photo. I'll try to get one in the next few days.

Have you had a hair cut recently? My hair is the exact length today that I want it for the wedding. I may go in and have them take off just one inch! 😊
