It's Going To Take Some Getting Used To

I'm writing this at 11:30pm and am wondering where the day went.

 I went into work for a few hours this morning, then Chuck and I went to a post-op appointment with the surgeon. She said the incision is healing well and she won't need to see him again.

On our way home we stopped at Kerry Park overlooking Seattle.  It's just a small park in between a few houses but the view is amazing!

We came home, I did some laundry, had dinner and then I made some phone calls for work. The girls got here and had all the stuff for s'mores so they built a fire and we sat outside for a while.

Then we came inside and played the rowdiest game of Mexican Train ever!! Sharaya put on Les Miserables and the three of them sang At. The. Top. Of. Their. Lungs. while we played!

You start the game by 'shuffling' the dominoes, moving them around and around to mix them up. Then you match the dots and build your 'train'. At the end of each round you count up your points and then turn the dominoes over to begin again. They started 'fighting' over them, trying to grab as many as they could, we were laughing so hard! When it was over Sharaya quoted the movie Hook, "That was a great game!"

And now it's after midnight and I have to get up and go to work in the morning. Ugh. I've really enjoyed this time off and going back to work every day is going to take some getting used to!

Been Looking Forward To It

This year we decided to go downtown a few hours before the parade started and walk around looking at all the shops. We stopped at the Edmonds Bakery to get some breakfast and we were shocked at all the cookie jars! So many cute ones!

 

 

I have a cookie jar that belonged to my grandparents. She's got to be at least 60 years old but I still use her! Do you have a special cookie jar?

While we waited for the parade to start, I walked around a little more. I really love the heart of our little town. 

We were invited to a friends party this year. I'm always nervous in those situations, especially if I don't know the people really well. Ugh! But we had a good time. I think next year we'll let Beth stay at home. She really didn't know anyone and just hung out with me all day. She'd much rather be at home writing, singing or watching TV!

Then on Sunday Sharaya and Allie came over for s'mores!

Guess Who Came To Dinner!?!

Beth has been counting down the days, she was SO excited! I emailed Nicks mom a couple weeks ago about having him come over for lunch on a Sunday. He wanted to take the DART bus (rather than his folks driving him) "Mr Independence!" as his mom called him. :)

Of course church ran long so we rushed home and were so glad we got to the house before he did. I saw the bus first and told her to go out and meet him.

It was the sweetest thing! He was such a gentleman all day. We ended up ordering pizza just because church was late and we were frazzled by the time we got home. But we all enjoyed it and had good conversation at the dinner table.

After we ate, Sharaya and Allie had another family event to go to so I cleaned up and Beth and Nick went downstairs. They kept the door open the whole time and were very good! After a few minutes they turned on the karaoke machine and oh my goodness! I think the neighbors heard them! They sang songs from Frozen, Les Mis, High School Musical... it was fun to listen to them sing together.

After a while I went down and asked if they were ready for s'mores. Nick said, "God bless you, Beth's mom!" :) The weather was gorgeous and it was nice to be outside for a while. While I lit the fire, Nick pushed his chair back and then told Beth, "Babe you should move your chair. It's not safe to be close to the fire." He called her Babe the entire day, it was really sweet.

We talked about Nick wanting to get his driver license, about the two of them getting their own house and what life would be like after they were married. I think if we said 'Okay' they'd be married tomorrow! But - they still have so much to learn about each other. So many issues to discuss. He wants kids but she says she isn't ready. Could they live by themselves? How would they handle arguments? How would they pay their bills? Could they afford their own place? Would they lose their Social Security if they get married? So many things to figure out.

After he left, Beth and I sat at the kitchen table talking about the day. I do believe it was so good for them to spend time alone, outside of All Aboard, no family sitting right with them. It gave them a chance to relax with one another and really be themselves. She definitely wants to invite him over again!
