Bark, The Junkos, and It Could Have Been Worse

Every few years I break down and buy some bark for the yard. I brought it home the other day and put it out in the front. Shovel-full by shovel-full I kind of shook it out across my little garden area. I didn't buy enough so of course every time I'd try to rake it you could see the dirt... so I ended up on my hands and knees spreading it out with my hands. I also bought some yellow pansies and put them in the big planter. By the time I got done and cleaned everything up I was so sore! As I slowly made my way back into the house, I remembered why I don't buy bark every year!

We all went out to LUMI Dessert Cafe on Mother's Day and I got a Berrylicious Bingsu. It's a Korean shaved iced dessert and it was really good. It was huge, I got the small and couldn't finish it. It comes with cream that you pour over it that makes it more like an ice cream texture more than just ice. It was good.

Remember the picture I showed of the nest, when you couldn't even see the eggs because it was so deep? Well, now they fill it up quite well!

Mr. and Mrs. Junko sit out on the wires watching the nest. They chirp nonstop whenever we come or go.

Chuck texted me at work the other day to say someone had run into ours and our neighbors mailboxes. A lady had just flown in on a red-eye and was taking her kids to school when - we think - she fell asleep, drove up on the curb and smashed into the mail boxes! Thankfully no one was hurt.

Our neighbor had their box on a metal pole and that's what stopped her. If she had kept going, she might have driven into the bricks and our big trees.

I'll give her credit because she did knock on our door and she gave Chuck all of her information. She also admitted she probably shouldn't have been driving.

A Little of This and A Little of That

We got new window coverings installed last week. Oh my goodness they make such a huge difference in here! (I still have to remove the curtain rod hooks.)

Beth had another visit with the endodontist.

They numbed the area, then cleaned out the teeth. They stopped for a minute and I really think she fell asleep! You guys, she was getting TWO root canals!! All of the sudden she relaxed and her breathing got loud... how does she do that?!

I peeked into the nest yesterday and... it's happening!

We had about 2 weeks of gorgeous sunshine recently. That is very rare in April around here.

Sharaya and I are going to Pennsylvania in a couple weeks. We're going to help Diana with wedding planning! Chuck's taking a couple days off work to stay here with Ally and Beth so it'll just be the three of us. We'll go dress shopping and get Rita's Ice-Custard and I think we'll get to see the venues... we've only got a few days but I'm really looking forward to hanging out with them!

Sunshine, Dinner Time And Audition Results

Linking up with Rebecca Jo from Knit By God's Hand

We've had a lot of rain lately so I'm thankful for the beautiful sunshine we had yesterday!

I'm thankful that I'm getting closer to finishing that den. I don't like to start a project if I can't finish it right away or at least in the same day. So this has been a test of patience for me!

The baby birds are growing so fast! They really fill up the nest now!

This picture's a little blurry so I just went out to get another one and as soon as I opened the door, I saw this...

Must be dinner time!

But the one thing I'm really thankful for is... I sent Beth a text at about 1:00 and asked her if they had posted the cast list yet and did she know if she was in the show?

What are you thankful for today?

Empty Nesters

I checked the birds nest again the other day and they were all piled inside! Mama Bird was sitting on a wire waiting for me to get into my car and drive away.

Then yesterday we headed out to the parade and I peeked into the nest...

Gone! I'm so sad! But hopefully Mama Bird will be back next year.

Sharaya and Allie spent the 4th with friends on Treasure Island just north east of Tacoma yesterday. Diana is, of course, in Pennsylvania so it was just Chuck, Beth and I at the parade. Edmonds is a city of about 42,000 people but downtown, in the heart of the city they put on a small-town parade and we love it!

We went down the night before and set out our chairs and each year it fills up earlier and earlier. But we found a good spot and staked our claim!

Beth and I happened to be at the porta potties when it started but we were able to cross the street and get back to our seats in just a few minutes. Whew!

There were the cutest little cheerleaders!

Of course, when it's a small town parade, you tend to know a lot of people in it. We have friends who are very involved in theater and they drove the truck and their kids handed out candy.

Our church has a men's residential aftercare program and they march every year.

The lady walking toward us is Cheryl, Beth's BFF.

When it got too warm, Beth would pull out her fan!

The Seahawks fan bus played some awesome music that everyone was singing along to. Even Beth!

 See her hand?
Yeah baby, she was jammin'! :)
Actually she really did begin to swing her shoulders and bob her head, she really got into it!

But I think her favorite part was the Star Wars characters!

One of them even came over to talk to her but was too close for me to get a picture. She was pretty excited!

Then we came home, fixed burgers and had our usual jello and whipped cream for dessert. Red, white and blue of course!

I hope you had a great day celebrating our nations birthday!

Life Lately

The baby birds have hatched!

June 24

July 1
They're already outgrowing the nest!

We have a cherry tree in the backyard and it's definitely harvest time! I've tried for years to keep the birds and squirrels out of it by using foil strips and CDs but nothing worked. This year we put a large net over it and that did the trick! Now there are SO many cherries, we're out there every day crawling under the net and plucking them off the branches. That little tree is a lot of work but the cherries are SO good!

Beth and I made cookies the other day. We had every intention of sending some to Diana but we only made one batch and then gave some to Sharaya and Allie and we ate the rest! Sorry Diana! We bought more chocolate chips today and we'll try again! 😋

Seattle has had weeks of gray skies and drizzle. We are so ready for warm temps and sunshine and as anyone who lives in Seattle knows, summer officially starts on July 5!

Happy Independence Day!
