Scary Stuff

 Something happened recently that I haven't told you about. When I took Beth to the doctor a couple weeks ago and the x-ray showed she had bronchitis, they put her on two different antibiotics. One was a z-pack. Take two the first night and one every day after that. When I got back from the pharmacy I gave her the first two and told her to take one the next day and I'd come down to see her when I got home.

Now, I'm working 10-14 hour days. Chuck stopped by the house at lunch to check on her - all was well. 

So that next evening I went down to check on her and noticed the z-pack was on her recliner. An interesting place to put it. When I picked it up it was empty.

"Beth where's the medicine that was in the box?"

She put her head down, no response.

"Beth did you take all of this medicine?"

Without saying anything she opened her desk drawer and began shuffling things around like she was looking for them. I reminded her what it looked like but she never said a word, just kept moving things around her desk drawer. I asked her again, by now my heart is beginning to race.

"Beth did you take all the medicine?"

Again, no response. I checked her forehead but she felt fine. She had been laughing at whatever was on TV, so she was feeling good.

But I went upstairs and called the doctor. It was after hours and when I told the answering service what happened he immediately transferred me to the Poison Control Center. 

That's when I began to cry.

After spending a few minutes talking with her she reassured me that the small dosage Beth had would not cause problems. She might have some bowel issues, maybe a stomach ache, but nothing serious. However, if she does begin to feel dizzy or she faints, call 911.

Needless to say I didn't sleep well that night. Even got up at 3:00 to check on her. She was snorin' like a freight train. (Couldn't wear her c-pap because she was so congested.)

Checked again before I went to work the next morning, still good. I texted her throughout the day and she always texted right back. The doctor called me during the conference - I took the call outside - and she told me that if Beth wasn't having any side effects by now, she was going to be just fine. It might be a week or two until we see her bronchitis improve but she was going to be okay.  

And she has been. Not one single issue. I sometimes wonder if she really did take them. I don't know. I just don't know. I'm just thankful she's okay.

Reservations

I don't know if you're like me but I go through seasons, short stages really, of having so much to write about and every day I can't wait to get on here and write! And then other times where I go weeks of not knowing what to write about and not even wanting to turn the computer on... I'm in the latter right now.

Well, what's been happening around here?

I got a covid test this week. I was around someone who was around someone who ended up testing positive. Then the person I was around tested positive so I decided to just get one. I didn't have any symptoms so I wasn't too surprised when it came back negative. But it feels good to know. 

I haven't had the vaccine yet. Honestly I'm a little hesitant. I'm not a big medicine taker. My mom and sisters both take (took) copious amounts of prescription meds and I saw the problems it caused. At one point in her life my mom was on, I think 19 medications. One night I flew down to stay with her because they didn't think she was going to make it through the night. She was delirious and hallucinating. Her doctor told us to just stop all of her meds. If this was the end it wouldn't matter anyway. Wouldn't you know, my mom woke up the next morning perfectly fine! I was shocked to see her sitting up in bed, perfectly okay. So I'm a little concerned about how these vaccines are going to affect people. IF they're going to affect people. What's gonna happen 6 months from now, a year from now. I kind of want to wait and see how people react to it. I'm not against it at all, I'm just... curious.

Let's see... I got my hair cut. I can't tell if it's too short for my taste or if it's just a shock because it was so long before!

Umm, what else? Ally and I are going to the Museum of Flight tomorrow! I bought tickets for us back in November but everything shut down a second time and they just refunded my money. So when they opened up again I bought them right away. We're ready to go! I'm so excited!

Is This My Responsibility? If So, I'm Doing A Terrible Job

Beth ran out of one of her medications so we went to the store tonight to get it refilled and the pharmacist told me that she has to see the doctor before we can get more.

Okay, but she was just there last week for a complete physical. They confirmed which medications she was taking and the dosages. Shouldn't they have noticed that her meds were about to run out? Or is that my responsibility? Am I supposed to check her medication bottle to see how many months they allow, then make sure I schedule an appointment before it runs out?

Is that my job, or theirs? Either way, I'll be calling the doctor tomorrow.

Side Effects May Include

I usually don't get sick. I'll get the common cold once or twice a year, but have never been hospitilized or had anything major. I take an over the counter medicine and am good to go. But not this time.

I'm getting over pneumonia. I've never had it before and I don't recommend it. I haven't taken a deep breath in over two weeks.

I initially went to the walk in clinic where the doctor perscribed an antibiotic. While laying in bed resting, I began to read:

Possible side effects that may occur while taking this medicine include diahhrea, dizziness, headache, loss of appetite, nausea, stomach upset or vomiting. Can I just say I had all of these. And it wasn't just any headache, it was a migraine. My first. Don't recommend that either.

I continued reading: muscle weakness, breathing problems, tarry stools, numbess in arms, chest pain, dark urine, fever, chills, hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, loss of consciousness, hives, swelling of the mouth, severe sunburn, mood changes, confusion, depression, yeast infection, vision changes, unusual bruising, peeling skin, seizures, suicidal thoughts... 'This is not a complete list of all side effects that may occur.'

Oh. My. Word.

I'll be so glad when I'm off this medication!!
