A Quick Post

I had planned to get on here tonight and write a long post about my sister's surgery. But  life happens and now it's now pretty late. But I still want to at least give you a quick update.

I flew down to San Diego on June 7, Deb's surgery was scheduled for the 9th. They called her the evening before to say it had been canceled. Needless to say she was upset. She had even shaved her hair to make it easier after surgery! The doctor told her the trays of surgical instruments had been compromised and they couldn't guarantee that they were completely sterilized. So the team made the decision to cancel surgeries, dozens of surgeries. I'm not sure we'll ever understand what happened. And there were so many people effected.

I was able to stay a few more days, but ended up coming back home before it was rescheduled. And she actually had the surgery today. She is home and has very little pain, but is still on heavy medication.

She told me to check with her again tomorrow. 😄

While I was there we spent one afternoon driving around San Diego to see places we hung out while we were growing up. We saw our childhood home and our grade school.

And my first job -

We reminisced and laughed, and learned a few things about each other that we didn't know! She's six years older than me and growing up she hung out with our older sister more than she did with me. They were only two years apart.

Even though she didn't have the surgery while I was there, we ended up having a great week together.

Thank you for your comments and prayers for my sister. Everything went well and she's home. Now she begins her recovery.

I can't even imagine the problems that cancelation caused to all of the people scheduled for surgery. Like you flying to be with her and then having to leave before the actual surgery. I'm glad she's doing well and will continue to pray for her.
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy

Oh that's awful, but at least you had a nice time visiting and reminiscing. I've had similar experiences with trying to be with my daughter when she lived in Salem and was having a baby...that baby came the day we were leaving, almost two weeks overdue! I think I arrived a few days before her due date, so it was a long visit...wonderful, but...

So sorry to hear that it was cancelled but I am happy that you got to spend time with her and drove around San Diego to see places that you used to hang out at. Keeping your sister in my prayers.

Sometimes God works things out differently than we expected for a reason...and I'm glad you got to have a nice visit with your sister rather than it all being about her surgery, even though I know it was frustrating having to cancel it and wait, and then I guess you weren't able to be there for it. But again, you had a nice visit, and I think that was what "the doctor ordered". Thank you for sharing it with us. Glad she is doing well after her surgery and I pray for her full recovery and healing.

Way back in 1951 San Diego was my and my husband's first home. He was one of those sailors stationed there. Coming from Alabama and having such a sheltered life and being so young, it was quite the adventure.

I'm so glad your sister's surgery went well and she is home. It sure sounds like you two had a great week together that might not have happened if her surgery had gone forward! Sometimes God makes things happen in unexpected ways. You were meant to have that bonding week, I think! Thanks for the update!! xo

I am glad you had a nice visit with your sister even though she did not have her surgery. I hope you get to visit again. We try to go to San Diego once a year, but not this year. Our dog is sick. Enjoy the rest of your week!

What on earth? I've never heard of such a thing. Surgeries cancelled for instruments not being sterile? That's crazy. I'm glad to know you had a good visit. I hope her recovery is speedy and uneventful.
