Perspective

I've always loved photography and I've realized in the last few years that I get it from my dad. Most of the time he was the one behind the camera taking pictures of the family, or our vacations or of flamingos.

We were all watching home movies one time and most of them were of flamingos. Forget me and my sisters, we have hours of film of those crazy pink birds standing on one leg... we never let my dad live it down.

Now that he's gone, I watch those movies and smile.

I have his Brownie, the camera he used to record our memories in the 1960's. I also have my grandpa's (mom's dad) Polaroid.

One thing I love is Aerial Photography. The perspective it gives you is phenomenal! We took our girls to the Grand Canyon, I think it was in 1999 and I took this picture the day after a monsoon. The day before you couldn't see a thing!

And I think Peter was the one who took this picture. The Grand Canyon from 30,000 feet.

We've been to Yosemite. I think everyone who visits has a photo from this very spot because it's an over-look just as you're heading into the valley. 😊

El Capitan is the massive rock face on the left and you can just see the tip of Half Dome in the center of the picture. When Chuck and I were coming home from San Diego in February we flew right over it!

Maybe this will help...

And Mount St. Helens. It erupted back in 1980. Chuck, Beth and I went there a few years back and my camera wasn't working right, so I'm sorry the picture didn't turn out well. Honestly, it was probably more operator error than anything else. 😁

And from an airplane seat high above the earth...

I just love the different perspective an airplane can give you. Sometimes I'm blown away by the fact that people can fly. Just hop aboard and up we go! It's mind boggling to me but man, I love it!

Do you like to fly?

Do you fly very often?

Who takes the pictures in your family?

I LOVE to fly! I've taken five trips since March of last year, and am heading to Portland next month, hopefully to California in July or August. (I have a daughter in Oregon, a son in Cali). I have driven across the U.S. from NY to California, it's breathtaking to see the landscapes change and unfold, the sunset over Nebraska, the desserts, the plains...but flying over it all in a fraction of a time, and getting glimpses of the mountains from the plane, that's just amazing. I am a terrible picture taker, and have a slew of kids who MOM me when I suggest pictures, ha. I loved this post though. A few years ago we stayed in a little town called Packwood, in Washington, near Mt. Ranier, Mt. St. Helens....it was beautiful...

I'm the photographer in the family and but now our daughter in law does a fabulous job with her I-phone. I'm happy she catches the moments. It is amazing to be able to recognize a spot from a plane and be amazed. That's funny about the flamingoes! Happy Mother's Day weekend to you!

I'm definitely the photographer in the family - but noooooo - I am terrified to fly - will do it if there's not a better option but man, I nearly have a nervous break down when it happens. The views are amazing though.

I do not enjoy flying anymore. The seats crammbed so close together you can't have any wiggle room, the process of having to go through the check in. Lines can be long and I always have to be set aside for extra checking because of two artificial knees. And, once you are in the air, just clouds to watch.. I like to see scenery. So, no, take me on a car trip any day,

I'm not the photographer my hubby takes all the pics. He also loves to fly. I don't like the crowds on the plane and there always seems to be that one person that has a tantrum. We have taken many trips by car across this country....so beautiful. If I had one piece of advise for young people, it would be to take trips in this country and SEE it's history. We are in love with the Black Hills area of So. Dakota but make So. CA our home. Patty McDonald

Great pictures! I usually take the pictures in this family and am not in very many. I don't mind flying but I hate the airports and the added security, etc. I couldn't take a picture but one of the most beautiful scenes I've seen from an airplane was flying over the Italian Alps on our way to Venice. So pretty!

Yes, I am sure most everyone knows I love to take pictures! Ever since my brother gave me a digital camera there has been no stopping me! Of course, I never develop the pictures anymore, they are all on flash drives or in my computer...so that is the downside. I need to be more diligent about preserving them for the future. Love your pictures of the earth below! So gorgeous from those perspectives. God certainly makes all things beautiful!! And yes, I don't mind flying once we are up in the air. It's all the airport drama that I don't like. Have a blessed weekend! Happy Mother's Day!

You got some great pictures here that you shared! I'm partial to the Grand Canyon ones but maybe because I live in Arizona :)

I do not like to fly. In fact if I never flew again I would be happy :) The last time I flew was in 2018 for my niece's wedding in the DC area. Before then had been 2006 :)

I should take more pictures and be in more pictures. Let's preface that by saying I take a lot of pictures but they necessarily aren't of family but of dogs and sights. Got to change that.

I'm definitely the photographer in the family, which is why I'm not in very many of the photos! My parents were photographers and I do still have their old camera, though no film is available for it anymore! (Or hard to find). I love all you shared here. Yes, I have that view from Yosemite, too!

I love photography but I'm not good at it. We too have a brownie and an old Polaroid and a couple of other old cameras that belonged to my husband's parents. They are precious and we wouldn't want to part with them.

I enjoyed your photos. I am the one who takes pictures. I do fly but haven't in over a year and don't plan on flying anytime soon.
