The Piece de Resistance

I've spent the last couple of days rearranging our den. Bought a new rug and new curtains. I'm going to put the old curtains in our room because they're really not all that old and they'll go great in there!

I have so many antiques and collectables but no place to put them. I imagine built-ins, big bookcases in our living room where I can display my moms old typewriter that she used in the 40s; my dads old reel to reel projector (that still works!) And my grandparents old slide projector, to name just a few of the things I have.

Something like this:

Or this. This one almost brings me to tears! Just think of the possibilities!

Anyway, back to our den. I had already emptied one of the bookcases when I remembered to take a picture. 😊 This is the before / during ~

And after:

And the piece de resistance... a chair for Ally ~

She's getting older and I've decided it's probably time to get rid of the toy box and start buying her things that are a little more her age. She and Sharaya came over today and she loved it! She was all curled up in a ball when I went in to ask if I could take her picture!

Do you have a favorite place to curl up or stretch out?

Its hard when the grands grow up and move on from what we created for them lol and we have to recreate something new for them :) She looks pretty comfortable where she is at :)

I have to work on the room in our house that stores our grandson's toys. He [is definitely morphing out of the toddler/preschool toys but I'm not sure where we are going next with what he wants :) Its a work in progress :)

Fun! I love your shelving ideas. I hope you can do exactly what you dream of doing. I love that you have those antiques from your family that are so special. They should be displayed and treasured! And I love the chair for Ally! What a fun place for her to curl up. I have my recliner in the living room where I read or watch TV with hubby in his recliner. Other than that, I move around from place to place...rocking chairs, outside on the swing or on the porch...I try to keep moving as that is better for my back and neck, but I always come back to my recliner. Enjoyed your post today.

I'm with you 100%. We need to move and downsize but I would love some built in wall units so I can keep my collections. Nice job on the den and I love that chair.

What a great transformation! Yes... I don't do much "curling up" anymore but my recliner is my happy place!

You've done a lot of work -- and well done! (I was in the rearrange mode this weekend too. It must be in the air!)

I love those built-ins and would love to have something like that. Ally looks so cute in her new chair.

Oh I do love a wall like the ones you showed. That is a great chair for an adolescent almost teen! (or maybe she's a teen already?)

I swoon over those sorts of book shelves!!!!! I want myself!!!
Isnt it crazy to see the toy boxes go up & cool teen furniture come in? Where does the time go?
