We Tried So Hard To Be Prim and Proper!

A couple weeks before Christmas I took Allie to tea for her birthday and we had such a great time! I've gone before with friends but was always just invited, this time I chose the place and made the reservation...

It was about 30 minutes from our house and if you know me, you know I don't venture far from home very often. Not by myself and when I'm driving! I'm so grateful for Google Maps and Street Scene. I've driven so many places on-line before I ever go there for real!

We arrived in plenty of time and got to look around the little shop before we were seated. It was a cute little place and we oohed and aahed at all the tea sets.

Our table was decorated so cute. We loved how the napkins were rolled inside the cup to look like roses

After we placed our order we went into the Royal Gown Room which was filled with crowns and hats and boas... Allie tried a few on and found a beautiful tiara to wear while we had lunch.

I wish I'd captured the look on her face when they brought out our lunch on the tiered trays. Her mouth dropped open, she was so surprised! It was priceless!

When I bit into my scone I expected it to be cool and a little bit hard but it was warm and so soft! My eyes got big, I looked at her and covered my mouth with my napkin so I could tell her how good it was when all of the sudden the background music began to play The Hallelujah Chorus! Oh my gosh we both laughed so hard!!

Have you ever had Tea in a Tea Room?

Hi Cindy~

How fun! You are brave, I'm proud of you for going it alone! I feel the same way about going somewhere I've never been, but I can see it was so worth it for you! The smile on your cute granddaughters face says it all, she is adorable! I had to giggle about the Hallelujah chorus, that is just too funny!! It looks like an adorable little shop, so many cute tea pots and cups...I would love it!!

You are a wonderful grandma!!

Hugs and Love,
Barb

Oh, Cindy, these are lovely photos of a simply beautiful time with your granddaughter. It's so fun to dress up and go someplace elegant and fancy with our little girls!

My daughter and I started doing tea rooms when she was 6. We frequented them regularly through the years, always trying new ones when we heard about them. Our favorite was Sweet Dreams, in DeLand, Florida. We went there about a dozen times.

Alas, when she was 10, we moved to Idaho, and we only ever had 1 tea room in the area. That was our regular go-to for years, including high tea for her 25th birthday. Sadly, the tea room closed a couple years ago, so we can't go there anymore.

However, there is a French restaurant in town that serves high tea one afternoon a week. Gabrielle wants to take me there for my birthday later this month.

Anyhow, I'm glad you enjoyed such a lovely time with your sweet girl.

Love,
Patti

What a wonderful birthday! I have had tea in a Tea Room as we are lucky enough to have one in the town where I work. It doesn't have a dress up room, though. I absolutely love that! I'd wear a tiara for lunch, too. :)

I went to a tea room back when we lived in CA but they closed their doors.
There is a hotel that hosts high tea on the last Sunday of the month I haven't tried yet but it wouldn't be the same as going to a tea room.

Oh what fun Beth! The joy in your hearts and on your faces! Thank you for all the lovely pictures of the pretty teacups and teapots! I've been to quite a few different tea rooms over the years. The most memorable one I visited was by reservation. A lady in our area owned a most beautiful Victorian home, and she hosted teas. She served I think a 6 or 7-course meal! The food just kept coming, it was incredible! My friend and I dined together, and it was like we were transported back in time. I'll never forget that experience. Sadly, it closed not too long after that. I think tea rooms are so much work, and probably not much profit. But they are just so much fun to enjoy! I'm glad you and your granddaughter had such a special time together!

Sounds perfect. I went to tea with a friend many years ago and then Mark and I had tea on the Queen Mary which was fun. That was a number of years ago to but always an enjoyable time.

What a sweet date. I have been to this Tea Room if it's the Graham Tea Room on Main street in Bothell. Haha on the Hallelujah chorus as you bit into your scone!
