Closing the Door on 2024

Over the holiday we were talking about how fast this year went by and how Adelaide (our two yr old granddaughter) will graduate high school in 2040. Pretty soon when we talk about "the 20's" it won't be the 20's people my age think about!

I think 2024 has been a year of rebuilding - friendships, trust, confidence. And I feel like we're headed into a year of peace, and prosperity. Not necessarily financial but more mentally, physically and emotionally. I don't know why I feel this way - can't really put my finger on it, I just do. I pray it happens for all of us.

We had a fun Christmas, quiet and not rushed. Sharaya and Ally came over Christmas Eve morning and we video chatted with Diana, Peter and Adelaide. Adelaide and Ally opened their Christmas eve pajamas from us, then we exchanged a few other gifts.

Christmas morning we all stayed home and had our own family Christmas. Chuck played Santa for me and Beth this year. Do you have someone hand out the gifts at your house?

Among other things, Beth got a new blanket for her recliner, and a tin full of cash. (I think that one was her favorite!) Her back was hurting when she woke up so she sat in a kitchen chair while she opened her presents.

I got Chuck a new speaker for his phone.

Sharaya and Ally came over around 1:00 and we opened a few more gifts, ate lunch and played some games. And of course, we had to watch The Muppet Christmas Carol. It's a tradition in our family!

Today, Sunday, we had just one church service, then Chuck, Beth and I went out for brunch, and headed downtown to see a gingerbread house display. Except these were cities, not just houses. It's put on at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Seattle. The displays used to fill up a huge room but it all had to shut down during covid. They just started it up again a couple years ago. It was small, but impressive! Can you guess the cities? I had to read the sign to know the first one -

And the details! The displays were very impressive.

And it's all edible!

The bridge opened and closed!

(The cities were India, London, Australia and Paris.) Beth and I have a new appreciation for them since we made our very first gingerbread house this year.

Now we're looking toward 2025. Only the Lord knows our path but I trust Him completely. He only has good things planned for each of us. We just have to pray and trust His answers.

I hope you all have a very happy New Year celebration!

Those gingerbread creations are amazing! Wow!! Adelaide is adorable!! You had a wonderful Christmas!! Back when there were lots of us to open gifts, we did have one person elected to pass out the gifts. Not quite the same when there are only two of us!! Wishing you and yours all that blessed new year you are already feeling in your bones!! Yes, for all!!

Looks like you had some nice together times over Christmas. We are trusting the Lord for what He has in store for us in 2025, too. Happy New Year!

People in the US must be living in a bubble. There has been no rebuilding of anything in the rest of the world, 2024 has been a year of forever wars, war crimes, starvation, homelessness, thanks to the US supplying never ending supplies of weapons and drones to kill and maim foreigners. Thanks to this the majority of the world is immensely pissed off with the American government, people should pray for peace and hope Trump can put an end to these conflicts

She’s not talking about rebuilding on a political or national scale, she’s talking about her personal life. If you read the rest of her posts this year you would’ve been able to figure that out.

Thank you so much for stopping over. Time does fly and the older we get the faster is seems to go. She's adorable and looks so cute in those pajamas. Yes, we have our son hand out the gifts now. We go the there house on Christmas Day. Nice blanket and a tin full of cash sounds awesome. Sorry about Beth's back. I like your family tradition with the movie. Those gingerbread houses are amazing. I do one with James each year. I love seeing the photo of Beth doing one. She did a very good job. It came out so cute. James got board so we didn't finish it. Happy New Year to you and your family.

Oh, I hope you are right about 2025. I have a good feeling about the new year, too. This year hasn't been dreadful but there was room for improvement!!

Love the idea of a tin of cash for a gift. My grands would eat that up. We gave them each a $20 bill and they thought they were rich. Walked around fanning themselves with it!!

Enjoyed seeing the pictures of Christmas Day. Sounds delightful. Ours was quiet in the morning and very rushed in the afternoon. I love QUIET.

These gingerbread CITIES are incredible. My goodness!! We have made houses a couple of times and can never get the icing to really hold the decorations on. Beth's house is just precious. Love the addition of the Charlie Brown gang.

Happy, healthy 2025.
