Chuck and I have been talking about what to do. I know Beth doesn't have the mental capabilities to handle being a juror. We might take her to the courthouse and let her decline in person. We're not sure.
After reading the entire letter, I guess our only options are to respond electronically or by filling out the letter and mailing it back. They give reasons for not serving - health, business, financial hardship. Then at the very end they list: other. I don't know if they'll believe us when we tell them she has Down Syndrome or if they'll want to see her and some ID. It'll be interesting.

Hmmmm. Interesting. What are the options? Do you have to appear to decline/ Or how does it work?

Oh, that is interesting! I thought juror notices came from DMV records. But then that wouldn't make much sense, though, would it, because that would keep an entire population of non-drivers out of the jury pool, which I think would be illegal... Hmmmm.
Hmmm.

This is Joyce. So very interesting. Never thought about this dilemna. It would be interesting to see if she showed up what they would do. Can they deny a juror based on intellectual capacity? Can she have an "interpreter" and could that be you?
Sarah just received her card to vote in the next election, which for Ohio is the primary in May. For that election you have to declare a party, which she has no understanding of. I'm torn on that one too. Do I choose for her so she can get a ballot?
So many things that I never have given thought to but interesting.
